Hutt Club Opens Winter Season LARGE ATTENDANCE Fine weather prevailed for the opening of the Hull Golf Club’s winter season on Saturday, when more than 100 members and friends took part in a mixed foursome bogey competition. The event was won by L. Bridge and Mrs. K Bradshaw 5 up- Then came K. M . Macleod and Mrs. Fossey, 4 up; W. B Reilly mid Mrs. Reilly, 3 up; G. Bradshaw and Mrs. Tennent, 2 up; J. H. lurner and Mrs. 1-loopTr, 1 up; W. H. Diihcar and Miss Jones, 1 up; A. J. Park and Mrs. E. Park, all square; AV. Thurgood and Mrs. T'hurgood, 1 down; D. M. Wilson and Mrs. Wilson, 1 down. The bogey match played yesterday morning was won by L. V. Browne 9 , o up. Then came E. Shields-Brown (6), all square; W. A. Bryden (9), 1 down; G. M. Frazer (7), 1 down ; R. D. Wraight (5), 1 down. The stableford played in the afternoon was won by 11. McElliott, 35-2-37, on a count back from G. M. Frazer, 30-i-oi. Next came J. Flmyigan, 31-u-o6; K- URawlinson, 29-6-35; and R. E. 1 ope, 22-12-34. Shandon Club Following are the results of the competitions played at Shandon over the weekend: — . T , Stableford: W. Coy, 44 points; HBradley, 3S points; M. C. Hume and SWard, 5 up. Manor Parle Club The official opening of the winter season was held on Saturday afternoon, when some 200 visitors and members took nart in a foursome stroke competition. Sirs. Kelly and H. Black led the large field by 16 strokes with an excellent card of 74-14-60. Miss Hogg and A. Clouston were next wtih S 2-12-70. W Kincaid and Dixon won an cctctitiona'l competition for men with So-13-iL. The president, Mr. A. S. T. Butler, we - corned'the visitors and presented the prizes. Yesterday fewer competitors were on the links and the 18-hole bogey handicap in the morning was won by the following: Senior, E. Butler, all square; intermediate. H. Elsmore, all square; junior, 1. L. Welch, all square. The afternoon competition was a tourball bogey, and was won by S. Cochrane and L. J. 'Smith with a card of 7 up, on a count back from J. Fellows and D. Hood. . , ~, , ~, Next Sunday a cup trial will be held and the draw will be published during the week.
Karori Club The annual meeting of the Karori Golf Club was held recently, the president, Mr. G. C. Simmiss, presiding over an attendance of 70 members. In congratulating the club on the completion of a successful year, the president commented on the marked improvements in the couse. As a consequence, t,he playing conditions were excellent anil the club could look forward to the future with confidence. . The retiring secretary, Mr. D. G. Davis, was warmly thanked for his services to the club. The following office-bearers were elect-ed:—-Patron, Sir Alexander Roberts; president, Mr. G. C. Sinmihss; vice-president, Mr. J. Hutchings; club captain, Mr. K. Barron; bon. secretary, Mr. D. F. Anderson; hon. treasurer, Mr. J. Graham; lion, solicitor, Mr. C. 11. Hain; hon. auditor, Mr. G. J. J. Foil; committee, Messrs. S. C. Bradley, A. W. Duncan, J. Gardner, R. R. Martin, D. Newton, and H. E. Taylor. The single stablcford played on the Karori links on Saturday afternoon resulted in a win for A. Mark (16) with 36 points. Yesterday morning K. McKenzie (8) and C. Wareliam (22) tied with E. Taylor (21) and E. C. Wood (24), 6 up on bogey in a bogey match, the former pair winning on the count back. In the afternoon round K. Barron (12) and B. Griffiths (24) won the fourball stableford with 44 points. Next were G. Sininiis (6) and T. louuie (11) with 43 points. Tui Glen Club Ideal weather prevailed for the opening of the Tui Glen club’s winter season. The mixed foursome was won by Mr. and Mrs. Swinburne with 64-15-49. Mr. N”. McKinnon and Miss Grieg, 72-21-51, were the runners-up. In a bogey match in the morning R. Pilcher won with 3 up. In a medal match (women and men) in the afternoon, Mrs. Davis was successful with 59-21-38, followed by Mrs. McKinnon with 60-18-42. The putting competition was won by R. Mudgeway. Judgeford Club In the Dustin Cup trial ou the Judgeford links yesterday the best net scores were: C. Nausbaum 59, K. J. Smith 61, S. Mawler 61, R. Dalton 62, T. Hill 65, V. Clausen 66, M. Jacobson 66, F. Bridgeford 66, R. Hill 67, A. E. Price 6S, G. Peimin 6S, E. A. Dalton 68, A. D. Smith 69, F. A. Walker 69, IV. Jarvie 71, S. Evans 71, R. Rattray 71, F. Phillips 71, J. Corson 72. In the afternoon a six hidden-hole competition resulted in a tie between W. Martin, K. J. Smith and E. J. Taylor, each with 25. Waiwetu Club
Excellent weather prevailed for the opening of the Waiwetu Golf Club’s winter season yesterday and there was a large attendance of members and visitors. After the official opening a combined foursome bogey was played and resulted in a win for Miss P. Barr and G. R. Millward on a count back from Miss Press and R. Dixon, both finishing 3 down. Next were Mr. and Mrs. 11. Rudolph 4 down, Miss Barclay and D. W. Barclay 5 down, and Mrs. Banks and D. J. Oliver 5 down. In the morning a bogey competition was won by D. W. Barclay (8), 2 up. Next came 11. Black (1), 1 up, D. J. Oliver (3) all square, and N. A. Dunn (11), one down. On Saturday a stroke round was won bv N. Hull-Brown (16). 68. Other good cards were R. Brown (24) 69 and P. Wallace (10) 71.
