REPUBLICAN ENVOYS SENT TO BURGOS
Surrender Of Madrid A “Matter Of Minutes” (Received March 24, 11.30 p.m.) ROME, March 24. Italian correspondents in Burgos state that an aeroplane landed at Burgos yesterday carrying republican envoys entrusted with the task of negotiation, conditional upon the surrender of Madrid. Valencia reports add that negotiations are proceeding between the envoys and General Franco’s representatives. It is claimed in Burgos that a republican broadcast picked up from Madrid indicated, that the city’s surrender was more a matter of minutes than of hours. FRANCE NOT TO HAND OVER REPUBLICAN FLEET PARIS, March 23. France has informed the Burgos Government that she is at present unable to hand over the republican fleet which is interned at Bizerta. Moreover, because France is still a party to the Non-Intervention Agreement she could not hand over the war materials surrendered by refugee republicans.
FRENCH RELATIONS WITH SPAIN BURGOS, March 23. The French Minister, Marshal Petain, and tiie Nationalist Foreign Minister, General Count Jordana; conferred today on all aspects of relations between France and Spain, including the return of war materials, warships, and refugees.
