Kiwi’s Book Corner

A Reading List From The Library “Tales of a Chinese Grandmother,” by ■ Frances Carpenter.

“Tales of a Chinese Grandmother” is a beautifully illustrated book that all older boys and girls will enjoy reading. It is the aged grandmother, Lao Lao, of the wealthy Lung family who tells the tales sometimes, on festival occasions, to the assembled Lung family—but more often to her two grandchildren,- Yu Lang and Ah Shung. These stories are all taken from old Chinese folklore and they are presented against the vivid and realistic family life of the Lung household. The illustrations are by Malthe Hasseiriis, a distinguished artist whose hobby is Chinese art.
