DAMAGE TO SHOP AND CONTENTS
Fire In Kilbirnie CHILD GIVES ALARM FROM STREET BOX The front portion and stock of D. Lewis and Company’s drapery shop, Bay Road, Kilbirnie, wits considerably damaged by an outbreak of fire last night. Flames and smoke issuing from the front windows attracted the attention of some children and one of them gave the alarm from a street box. Two machines from the South Wellington sub-station responded to a call received at 9.9 p.m., and when the brigade arrived the lire had a good hold of the single story wooden building. Dense clouds of smoke and tongues of flame leaping from the large show windows attracted a crowd. In spite of the building being well alight when the machines arrived, the brigadesrnen made a good save and prevented living-rooms al the rear of the premises from being damaged. The origin'of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be ascertained last night. Details .of insurances were not available.
