FILLING IN FORMS
Trying Time This Year For The Public In every way, 1939 promises to be tinusually trying to the public for filling in forms and paying all kinds of imposts. Some obligations, like obtaining warrants of fitness for motor-veh-icles and various kinds of local body licences, have to be met annually without regard to fixed dates. The first annual payment to the State is the radio licence fee, due on March 31, for those who elect to pay a year at a time. Land tax returns follow, being due on April 11. May is always the heaviest mouth for official returns, including income tax, motor registration, third-party insurance, and drivers’ and. heavy traffic licences. To these is now added social security registration, which will have to be effected by the many thousands of people not already registered for the payment of unemployment tax. These include women, youths and girls, as well as Maoris pf both sexes. Import control has brought abundant extra work to mercantile bouses, in inverse ratio to the amount of goods that most of them are allowed to bring into the country. Applications for licences will have to be made ii: future in batches every six months, but the filing of appeals, the number of which is unknown, though enormous, spreads Itself ove r a wider period.
