PLENTY OF WORK IF WILLING TO WORK
Magistrate’s Opinion
Dominion Special Service,
MASTERTON, March 23. “There is no reason-to say you can't get work these days. There is plenty of work if you are willing to work,” said Mr. 11. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Masterton, today to a defendant in a civil action who said that none of his children was working. ' “What about the boy of 18; is he working?” asked the magistrate. “No, he can’t get work. When be looks for a job they say he is either too old or too young,” defendant replied. The magistrate: And the girl of 17? Defendant: She's not doing anything. The magistrate: Just staying at home.
• After fixing the order the magistrate said: “Tell the children that if they don’t go to work you are liable to go to jail for a week.” Defendant: Yes, sir.
