WEATHER SITUATION
Southerly Change Following is the weather report and the forecast for winds and seas issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. today :— General situation: Pressure is falling slowly over New Zealand, hut is very high over south-eastern Australia. Forecast.—Winds: North-east to northerly at first over most of the country; force light to moderate, but freshening somewhat. A change to strong southerlies arising, however, in the far south and becoming general within about 24 hours. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough at first north of East Cape. Elsewhere slight to moderate, but increasing with the southerly change.
Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate east to north winds in the central and northern portions with slight to moderate seas, but a change to strong southerlies and rough seas advancing from the west and south.

YESTERDAY’S WEATHER Wellington: The day in Wellington yesterday wir s brilliantly fine with a clear sky and a light to moderate northerly breeze. Temperatures were rather cool. The minimum temperature on Wednesday night was 44.1 deg., and the maximum yesterday was 68.7 deg. At 3.30 p.m. yesterday the temperature was 64.7 deg., and the barometer reading 30.056 in. Palmerston North: Glorious, sunny day, clear skies and very warm. Masterton: A sunny autumn day, though cool in the shade. An overnight frost of 5.5 degrees. Wanganui: Blue sky and a light south-westerly breeze. The barometer reading at 4.30 p.m. was 30.151 U. Napier and Hastings: A glorious day of bright sunshine, but the heat was tempered by a cool easterly breeze. Waipukurau: A beautiful sunny day with cool temperatures, the maximum being 72deg. The barometer dropped slightly to 30.12 in. New Plymouth: Warm and sunny, with partially-overcast skies and a short, sharp shower about midday. The barometer read 30.00 in. Auckland: Fine and cloudy, with a moderate wind moving between north and east. The maximum temperature was 70deg. Barometric pressure fell during thf afternoon and the reading at 5 p.m. was 30.12 in. Christchurch: Fine, aud for the most part sunny, with a moderate north-east breeze. The maximum temperature was 61.3 deg. The barometer was steady at 30.03 in. Dunedin: The sun shone brightly, but there was again a fresh north-east breeze which kept the temperature down to a maximum of 62deg. The barometer fell to 30.05 in., but was rising again later.
