Richard Greene's Progress In Hollywood
GREENE has probably experienced less trouble in gearing himself to- the Hollywood scheme of things than any top-notch player in years. Ten months ago, the handsome young British actor was not only a total stranger to Hollywood, but was hardly familiar with the movies. Today, with four major film productions behind him and a fifth, ‘Kentucky,” the 20th Century-Fox technicolour production, ready for release, Greene has been taken to Hollywood’s heart as have few others.
In “Kentucky” Greene appears opposite Loretta Young. They are cast as the son and daughter respectively of two of Kentucky’s proudest old families, bitter enemies because of an old feud, but even more bitter in their rivalry over their great stables. Miss Young had no difficulty whatever in simulating a soft Kentucky accent, nor did Greene’s clipped British speech present a problem since, in the story, he is supposed to have spent eight years in English schools. Greene recently took his mother, Kathleen Gerrard, a veteran of the British stage, over from England, and they have made their home together in West Los Angeles. •
