ALLEGED OFFENCE AGAINST GIRL
A charge of rape was brought in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, on Wednesday against Eric Alfred Garrod, carpenter, aged 21. After evidence had been heard from a girl aged 16 about an occurrence on the foreshore at Aberdeen Quay, Miramar, one Sunday night and from her mother and detectives, accused pleaded not guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was fixed at £lOO, with a surety for a similar amount, and he was ordered to report to the police twice a week. Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., was on the Bench. Detective-Sergeant P. Doyle conducted the prosecution and Mr. C. J. O’Regan appeared for aceused.
