Lyttelton, and Dunedin. AMBASSADOR ARRIVES. With basic slag from Immingbam, the British steamer Ambassador arrived at Auckland on Wednesday afternoon. She will complete discharge at Now Plymouth. PIAKO FOR PICTON. 'l'lie departure of the New Zealand Ship ping Company’s steamer Piako tor Pieton has been postponed from yesterday till this morning. WORLD IDLE TONNAGE. It is noted that the records Cor the year ended April 1. 11138, show a substantial increase In world idle tonnage. It rose from 2,321,000 gross tons on April 1, 1937. to 3?lo!),000 on April 1, 15)38. At the present time, however, the volume of world idle tonnage is only 22 per cent, of what it was on .Inly J. 1932. at which time approximately 20 per cent, of the entire world fleet was laid up. 'Die total United States laid-up fleet on April 1 was 1,170,000 gross tons. ■
