FREEZING WORKS CONGESTION
Shortage Of Shipping Space In Napier Dominion Special Service. NAPIER, March 23. With the slackening up in supplies, the usual shortening of staffs ou the, kilhug floors in the Tomoana and Whakatu works has begun. Though at one of the works hands were put off earlier this season because of the congested state of stores, this seasonal elackesing.is usually manefest from about the beginning of autumn till the end of the export season, and now that it has set in. the congested condition in the stores caused by the lack of shipping space will show a tendency to ease. It was stated this morning that the situation would have been materially eased before now had it not been for the waterfront dispute in Wellington, which has disorganized shipping in New Zealand The delay in the arrival of the Rangitata in Napier as a result of the shipping hold-up has increased the difficulties in Hawke's Bay, but with this vessel arriving now on Saturday the position should be relieved slightly. The space available will be equal to 55,000 lambs or 2 1,00 V sheep, which is helpful in relieving the overloaded condition of the stores. Chilled beef allotments to Hawke’s Bay during the past month or so have been insufficient to cope with the quantities which farmers in this district have been anxious to dispose. It is expected that the position will improve in the immediate future.
