BUSINESS POST WITH SIR JULIEN CAHN

Dominion’ Special Service. AUCKLAND, March 22. New Zealand will shortly lose one of its best all-round cricketers when 11. G. Vivian, who has accepted a position in the furniture business of Sir Julien Calm, leaves for England, where lie will play as a member of Sir Julien’s cricket side. The date of Vivian's departure is not yet definite, as he lias certain obligations to the Bank of New Zealand, in whose employ ho is at present. If was tiie excellent business opportunity offered Vivian that induced him to accept. Though uo contract has been drawn up, it is understood that the position in the business is a permanent one. Players from all parts of Hie Empire already enlisted for Sir Julien’s team all have it definite future in the business.

Vivian’s career in cricket in New Zealand lias been one of the most conspicuous of recent years. He originally attracted attention at the Mount Albert Grammar School, where he played in the first eleven. He first gained Auckland representative honours in 1930 and has been a member of the Parnell first grade side since leaving school. He won the Redpath Cup for the best batting performances iu New Zealand first class cricket in 1933-34.

As a member of the New Zealand team he toured Great Britain in 1931 and 1937. On the former occasion he was only 18 years of age and was the youngest member of the side. He gained recognition by scoring more than 1000 runs ou both trips. Vivian is the second Aucklander to play cricket in England, the other player being C. C. Daere. Several cricketers from Canterbury went to the Lancashire League cricket, including W. E. Merritt, 1. B. Cromb and A. W. Roberts. The latter two returned, but Merritt remained iu England and has qualified for county cricket. R. C. Blunt, also of Canterbury, is at present on Sir Julien Calin's staff and resident in England. C. S. Dempster and K. C. James, of Wellington, play respectively for Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
