An increase tn I lie tonnage ot cargo handled at Hie port of Wellington during February ami a decrease in the tonnage of trading vessels arriving, as compared with February, 19,:>s, w:is noted by the chairman, Mr. C. M. Turrell, iu a review of statistics presented at tire monthly meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board last night.
Tlie net tonnage of trading vessels arriving was 335,523 tons, a decrease of 8174 tons. The cargo handled was 198,274 tons, as compared with 188,062 tons, an increase of 10,212 tons. Increases were shown in general cargo imports from coastal aud Australian ports, 7945 tons: in general cargo exports. 34G0 tons; in coal imports, 5128 tons: in timber imports, 1.287,452 super feet : and in butter, cheese aud frozen meat shipments. .1462 tons. Decreases were shown iu general cargo imports from British and foreign ports, 7052 tons, and in wool and hemp shipments. 1755 bales.
