Change To Northerlies Following is the weather report and the forecast for winds and seas issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington,. for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. today * General situation: An anticyclone covers the Dominion, its centre being east of the South Island, while a very shallow depression is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Forecast. —Winds: South-east to east at first about and north of Cook Strait; force moderate to strong, but decreasing. Elsewhere light to moderate north-east to north, and' a change to these directions extending northward.

Seas (New Zealand waters) : Rather rough at first in parts of Cook Strait and between Capo Palliser and East Cape, -but decreasing and otherwise slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate east to north winds, 'but a change to southerlies advancing later from the south-west. Seas slight to moderate. (General forecast appears above leading article.) YESTERDAY’S WEATHER Wellington: Rather cloudy ip the morning but otherwise brilliantly fine and sunny with a moderate southerlybreeze aud cool temperatures. Maximum temperature yesterday, 61.2 deg.; minimum temperature on Tuesday night, 51deg. Temperature at 3.30 p.m. yesterday, SSdeg.; barometer at 3.30 p.m. yesterday 30.2631 U. Palmerston North: Overcast, with periods of bright sunshine and a sharp south-east wind. Masterton: Dull and overcast iu the morning, but the afternoon was clearer, witli bright sunshine later. Light, varying south-westerly wind. Napier and Hastings: Overcast, cold and threatening during the morning, gradually brightening till evening, when the clouds dispersed. Moderate southeasterly breeze. New Plymouth: Warm and sunny with a light south-easterly breeze. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 30.05 in. Auckland: Following rain in the early morning the day was cloudy but fine with a moderate northerly wind, the maximum temperature being 70 degrees. The barometer was fairly steady, with the reading at S.p.m. 30. 21 in.

Christchurch: .Fine but overcast with a light north-east: breeze. The maximum temperature was 57.3 degrees. The barometer fell slightly to 30.27 in. at 5 p.m. Dunedin: Bright sunshine with a fresh breeze from the north-east. The temperature did not’ rise above 62 degrees. The barometer fell sharply to 30.22111., but wa s rising later at 30.28 in.
