Wing Commander A. de T. Nevill, Air Force member for supply, Air Headquarters, Wellington, is visiting Auckland.
The Hon. F. Waite, M.L.C., was among the passengers to arrive at Wellington by the interisland steamer yesterday.
Mr. A. R. Galbraith, Christchurch city engineer, was a passenger from Wellington by the interisland steamer last night.
Mr. W. R. Carey, manager of the Kaiapoi Woollen Manufacturing Company, returned south from Wellington last night. Mr. G. C. White, a director of the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand Ltd., left Wellington for Greymouth by air yesterday. Mr. B. L. 11. de Rose, national field organizer of Now Then Ltd., has left Wellington for the north on the company’s business. Mr. E. L. Rutledge, general manager for New 'Zealand for the Fox Film Corporation (Australasia, Limited), is ti visitor to Auckland. Mr. Claude Kingston, concert director for J. C. Williamson, Limited, left Auckland by the Awatea for Sydney yesterday. Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, S.M., chairman of the Railways Appeal Board, and Mr. J. R. Robinson, a member of the board, returned to Wellington from the soutii yesterday. Mr. 11. F. Herbert, Christchurch, arrived at Wellington yesterday to attend the Dominion conference of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Mr. 11. C. Cock, chairman of directors of Cook Strait Airways, Mr. E. 11. Thompson, managing director, and Captain G. Bolt,-chief pilot and technical adviser, travelled to Nelson by air yesterday. Dr. Bruce Grieve, Hastings, left Auckland by flic Awatea yesterday for Sydney, on his way to Melbourne, to begin special studies under the obstetrical scholarship awarded to hint last year.
Mr. J. D. O’Meara, for the past. 10 years on the staff of the Te Aro branch of the Bank of New Zealand, hits been transferred to Hastings. He will leave to take up his new duties at the weekend.
Commissioner D. Cuthbert, who has been on a brief visit to the New Zealand headquarters of the Salvation Army as a special representative of General Evangeline Booth, left Auckland by the Niagara this week for Vancouver.
The Rt. Rev. 11. St. Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington, is making good progress following his recent oi>eratiou. His general condition is very satisfactory. It is considered advisable, however, that lie should not yet receive visitors. It is expected he will be in hospital for about a further fortnight. Mr. ,1. Butler, of the Employment Division of the Labour Department. Wellington, has been appointed the district agent for the Social Security Department in Dannevirke. Mr. Butler is a well-known Rugby footballer, having represented both Wellington and Auckland. Dr. W. N. Benson was congratulated at this week’s meeting of the Otago University Council on the award to him of the Lyell Medal in recognition of the wide range and excellence of his geological researches, particularly in New Zealand. The chancellor, Mr. W. ,1. Morrell, said the medal was a distinction rarely won by a New Zealander.
