President’s Tribute To

Minister “Very happy relations have existed between us right throughout our association,” said -the president of the Amalgamated Society of Railways Servants, Mr. E. J. Dash, in paying a tribute to the Minister of Railways, Mr. Sullivan, at an interview between the Minister aud the executive council of the society recently, according to a statement issued yesterday. ’ Mr. Sullivan paid a tribute to Mr. Dash, who is retiring shortly. The Minister mentioned that it would be the last occasion on which Mr. Dash would appear at such a meeting in his official capacity as president of his organization. He wished to thank Mr. Dash for the splendid work he had achieved over a long period of years, not onlj as an able and enthusiastic leader of his organization, seeking to improve and raise the standard of living of his members, but also for Ms work as a member of the railways service during the past 36 years. Mr. Sullivan referred to the high honour which had been conferred on Mr. Dash by his fellow workers in being selected to represent them at the International Labour Conference in Geneva some years ago, and also to the confidence the members of hi 9 organization had displayed in him by re-electing him as president over a record number of terms. The Minister concluded by wishing Mr. and Mrs. Dash and their family a long period of prosperity aud happiness during his well-earned retirement on superannuation. Mr. Dash, In replying, expressed his appreciation of the Ministers remarks, and in thanking him for meeting the deputation he said: “I might also say that if the men could appreciate your difficulties the same'as we appreciate them it would be better for all concerned. We appreciate very much indeed the frank way in which vou have discussed these matters, and' I want to thank you very sincerely for the way you have treated our remits. “I also want to comment on the very fine relations that have existed between us not only since you became Minister of Railways, but even before that. Aery happv relations have existed between us right throughout our association,’ Mr. Dash said.
