WOMAN ASSAULTED IN HER KITCHEN
Hit With Bottle And Gripped By Throat FOUND COLLAPSED OVER GATE By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 21. A young married woman was the victim of a savage assault by a man early this afternoon in her kitchen, in Church Street, Ponsonby. She told the police that the man went uninvited into her kitchen, and while she was examining a cake in the oven he struck her over the head with a bottle, and then gripped her by the throat till she became unconscious. When she recovered she staggered round the house and collapsed over the gate. Her dishevelled state attracted the attention of a passer-by. who summoned the police and a doctor. Ihe woman was still too dazed tonight to be interviewed. A woman passer-by told a constable that the woman’s head was covered with blood when she first saw her, and that her clothing and scratches and finger-marks on her neck indicated that she had been attacked. Though not seriously hurt about the head, the woman who had been the victim of the assault, is suffering a good deal from shock. It is understood that a suspect was subsequently arrested.
