Business Telephones And Private Calls
Sir, —As we consider there are two sides to the telephone question, we would ask you to publish the following in reply to “Manager’s” letter published in today’s “Dominion”: — We think it a shame That you should try to pur. the blame On younger members of the staff. For seniors are at fault —not half. And so. good sir, it seems to us' That they are causing all your fuss. (We’re wondering if you have a wife Who interrupts your business life With “rather urgent” calls to say, “Oh, Baby’s cut a tooth today!”) If you enjoy not married bliss We think your trouble might be this, That you are jealous of those boys Who contemplate life’s sweetest joys. Remember, “Youth must have its fling.” And who can fling without a ring? ? ? We are. etc.. LIFE’S “SWEETEST JOYS.” Lower Hutt, March 21. Sir, — I was somewhat amused to read “Manager’s” letter in this morning’s issue of your paper, regarding “Business Telephones and Private Calls.” As another manager, I would suggest that the difficulty liesnot so much with the “young female members” of the staff but with “Manager’s” inability to cope' with the situation and run his business on efficient lines. In a well-organized firm, a position such as he quotes in his letter would never arise, and I contend that the onus is on him as an employer, if his staff does abuse the business telephone.—l am. etc., ANOTHER MANAGER. Wellington, March 21.
