FRANCO REJECTS PEACE PLEA
Determined On Victorious End To War } ■ MADRID, MarclfelO. The Foreign Minister, Seuor Besteiro, has appealed to General Franco by wireless to open peace negotiations. A Burgos message states that the Minister of the Interior, Senor Nuner, said that the nationalists would not heed Madrid’s peace appeal as they desired a victorious end to the war. At Madrid Colonel Luis Barcelo, one of the leaders in the Communist revolt, was shot dead by a firing squad.
A Burgos message states that 43.1,351 republican prisoners were taken at the end of the Catalan offensive, and 253,346 of them have been released.
