Elderly Man Detained. By Passing Motorists Dominion Special Service. 1 PALMERSTON N„ March 20. Pleading guilty to beiug intoxicated while in charge of a motor-ear last Saturday Frank Bertie Hewson, wieker.tnaker, an elderly man, was fined £2O by Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., this morning. The magistrate also conceited Hewson’s driving licence and prohibited him from bolding another for three years. Senior-Sergeant J. Mclntosh said at 5.50 p.m. ou Saturday a constable in Foxton received a telephone message to the effect that the ear being driven by accused on the Palmerston North-Himitaugi road was behaving erratically. Later a further message was received by the police that two passing motorists bad detained accused, who was later brought to Foxton. There he wa« medically examined and declared unfit to drive a ear. Two bottles of beer were found in the back of the car. Accused had been before the Court in 1926 for a similar offence and in 1924 he was convicted on a charge of being intoxicated white in charge of a motor-eycle. When asked if he had any explanation to make, accused said he had nothing to say.
