High Commissioner's Report
The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, dated March 17:— Tallow. —Market very quiet. Present spot quotations are: —Mutton: Fin®, 24/6 to 25/-; good, 21/- fair, J6/6 to 17/-, Beef: lune, 20/6 to 21/-. good. 18/-; fair. 16/- to 16/6. Mixed: Good. 18/-; fair, 16/- to 16/6; gut, 13/6 to 15/6. Mutton: Dark to dull, 14/6 to 16/6. Beef: Dark to dull. 13/6 to 10/b. Hemp.—Mauila: Market quiet but steady “K” grade sold March-May shipment £l7. Sisal: Market quiet. MayJuly shipment sold £l6/12/6, July-Sep-tember shipment £l6/15/-. New Zealand : Nothing to report Fruit. —Waipawa discharged, the following are the market values of sound conditioned fruit of the varieties mentioned. tlie range of prices generally representing the difference between the several grades and/or counts. Variable conditioned fruit of similar varieties proportionately less.in value. Apples: Opening prices, Cox's Orange, 22/6 to 27/6; Worcester, 11/- to 13/6; Gravenstein. 10/- to 12/-. Gold Mining Returns The Gillespie’s Beach wash-up totalled 390 z. 14dwt. for 127 hours from 16.042 yards. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND. March 20. The Mataki return for the week ended March 17 was lOoz. for 125 hours from 73.000 yards. MURCHISON. March 20. The Malaki Junction return for the week ended March 16 was 65 ounces of smelted gold for 129 hours from 19.000 yards dredged. DUNEDIN, March 20. The Molyneux dredge'returned 1460 z. for 150 hours’ work. Wellington Alluvials Report Wellington Alluvials Limited report that for the four weeks ended March 4 the dredge worked 257 hours, handling 103.000 cubic yards and recovered bullion estimated to contain 400uz. Hue gold. Dredging operations were recommenced at 8 a.m. on February 18 after completion of repairs to the stacker.
