The New Game Regulations
Sir, —The statement made by the chairman of the Wellington Acclimatization Society that the new game regulations come as a bombshell cannot be endorsed by most level-headed shooters. We cannot have our game and the vermin also, and naturally only those who will receive the benefits can be expected to foot the bill by way of increased licence fee. It must be remembered that should the fee be double its present figure we would still have the cheapest game licence in the world. We shooters who take our sport seriously only regret that the Minister of Internal Affairs has not gone so far as to make provision for some method of control of the swamp lands; it will certainly come some day when the ducks have almost gone. Why not do it now and avoid the closed-season which is the only other effective method of control.—l am, etc., FUR AND FEATHER. Wellington, March 16.
