Motor-Cyclists Badly Hurt ONE DEATH RESULTS Accidents In Several Districts The week-end was not a good one as far as road accidents were concerned. Serious injuries were received by two motor-cyclists, one of whom collided with a train on the Gear Meat Company’s crossing on the Hutt Road yesterday, and another who came into collision with a motor-car approaching the Hutt bridge early yesterday morning'. A Rolleston motor-cyclist was fatally injured when he collided with a motor-cycle at Irwell early yesterday morning and four people were injured, two seriously in a head-on car smash on the Shannon Road on Saturday night. MOTORCYCLE CRASHES Two Occur Close Together RIDERS SERIOUSLY HURT Two serious accidents involving motor-cycles occurred within five minutes of each other, and at situations within a mile of each other early yesterday morning. As the result of one Harold Thompson, a young man of 4 Peel Street, Petone, is in the Wellington Public Hospital in a serious condition. The motorcyclist concerned in the other, Kenneth Smith, fitter, G Masou Street, Moera, is also in hospital with severe injuries.

There were pillion passengers on each motor-cycle concerned but neither was hurt.

Mr. Thompson collided with a train on the Gear Meat Company’s railway crossing on the Hutt Road. Petone, at 12.50 a.m. yesterday. He received severe head injuries, concussion, a severe wound to the left leg, and an injury to the right foot. His pillion passenger was Jack Rankin, also of 4 Peel Street, Petone.

Mr. Smith was travelling along the western approach to the Hutt bridge from Victoria Street, at 12.55 a.m. yesterday, when a collision occurred with a "motor-car which was coming off the bridge in the direction of Railway Avenue. He received concussion, a fractured right collarbone, severe head injuries, and shock. Dr. W. J. Hutchison attended him. The Wellington Free Ambulance took Messrs. Smith and Thompson to hospital. FATAL INJURIES Young Motor-cyclist By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, March 18. Injuries from which he died were received by Jack Holmes, aged 23, Rolleston, when a motor-cycle he was riding collided with a motor-ear at Irwell, early this morning. He teceived a compound fracture of the right leg. a fracture of the left arm, and head injuries. HEAD-ON COLLISION ’ Four People Injured, Two Seriously Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N., March 19. Four people were injured as the result of a head-on collision between two motor-ears, one driven by Mr. W. H. Brown and the other by Mr. G. 11. 11. Smith, on the Palmerston NorthShannon road on Saturday night. The injured were later admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital. The injuries of two of them were, described by the Palmerston North Hospital authorities last night as serious. Injured. Mrs. Brown, wife of Mr. William Henry Brown, garage proprietor, New North Road, Kingsland, Auckland. Head injuries. Condition serious. Mrs. Smith, wife of Mr. Grenville William Henry Smith, 238 Botanical Road, Palmerston North. Head injuries. Condition serious. Grenville William Henry Smith. Fractured leg. Condition satisfactory. Tlie four-year-old child' of Mr. aud Mrs. Smith. Abrasions. Condition satisfactory.

The accident occurred at about 11 p.m. at a point four miles south of Palmerston North. Mr. Brown was staying with friends in Shannon and was driving from Palmerston North Co Shannon. Mr, Smith was travelling in the opposite direction. The cars collided head-on and came to a standstill locked together. They were badly damaged.

The injured received medical attention at the scene of the accident from Mr. C. S. Williams, Palmerston North, and were brought to hospital by ambulance. With Mr. Brown in his car were his wife and two-year-old child. Mr. Smith was accompanied by his wife and four-year-old child. Mr. Brown and his child escaped injury. TWO MEN INJURED Dominion Special Service. MASTERTON, March 19. Severe facial injuries were received by two farmers of Nireaha. Mr. John Spring and Mr. Claude Goss, when a motor-car driven by Mr. Spring struck a bridge four miles south of Greytown on Saturday morning. The two men were on their way to the Trentham races. They were admitted to the Greytown Hospital. The car, which was a new model, was extensively damaged. Later in the day a small car, in which were four persons, turned a complete somersault on the main Greytown Road. The car was fairly badly damaged, but nobody was injured. The driver was Miss Clarke, Marion Street, Wellington.
