IMPROVED TELEPHONE SERVICE
Wellington-Nelson Calls Au improvement in Hie telephone toll service has been made by a rearrangement of circuits to provide a direct toll channel between Wellington and Nelson. Hitherto, it lias been necessary for Wellington-Nelson calls to be switched al Blenheim, and the elimination of this operation should bring about a faster and more efficient service. The direct channel was brought, into operation this week.
To enable the improved arrangement to be given effect to, a new circuit was provided ‘between Nelson and Blenheim, the circuit being extended to Wellington by means of one of the Cook Strait telephone channels. Other interisland calls will not suffer as a result of the permanent allocation of a Cook Strait telephone channel to Nelson, us the volume of toll truffle between Wellington and Nelson has, for some time, been such as to absorb the full time of one circuit. .
A further improvement in toll facilities will be brought about by the pre-viously-existing Nelson-Blenheim circuits being relieved of calls to and from the North Island, thus enabling a quicker service to be provided between the Marlborough and Nelson provinces.
