LONG FLYING CAREER
Squadron Leader White PRESENTATIONS MADE i»y Telegraph—Press Association • GISBORNE, March 17. Closing a career extending over 23 years of active flying, Squadron Leader T. W. White, of Union Airways’ staff, made his last flight between Napier and Gisborne this afternoon. His career lias been practically crash-free and he has never been involved in an accident in which a passenger or pilot received injury. His experience has been exceptionally wide and his services to commercial aviation very great. Since the formation of East Coast Airways, Mr. White has almost doubled his previous flying time, which now totals about 6000 hours. He made several exploratory flights, both for the company and on charter, and lie pioneered the Gisborne-Palmerston North route. The Union Airways plane which lie piloted to Gisborne for the last time today was escorted to the aerodrome by visiting planes. He was bade farewell by a representative gathering, over which the mayor, Mr. Coleman, M.P., presided. On behalf of his admirers Mr. White was presented with a wallet of notes, and on behalf of Union Airways pilots with a cocktail set.
