Miss Norman Unsuccessful By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 16. Special attempts to lower the existing world records for the 50 yards nnd 100 yards women's sprints were made by tin? Australian Empire Games clitun'pion. Miss Deciina Norman, at a meeting of Hie I’aeroa Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club tonight. In the 50 yards Miss Norman registered 6sec., which equals the New Zealand record held by Mrs. .1. AV. Heeps, formerly Miss I. Campbell, since February, 1937. Miss Norman clocked H 2-5 in the 100 yards, this being 2-ssee. outside the existing world record tor the distance. Miss Norman was very tired when she arrived at I’aeroa in the afternoon after a six-hour train journey from Rotorim, ami this probably had some effect on her running. Assisting Miss Norman in the 50 yards attempt was Mrs. R. Laurent and Miss V. Taylor, I’aeroa, who is prominent, in athletics in the Waikato, was with Iter in the 100 yards run. Miss Norman will comiH-te in events at a meeting in Morrinsville on Saturday, when competitors from Auckland will also be present
