FARMERS PLAN MASS DEMONSTRATION
South Canterbury Move INDUSTRY’S FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES Dominion Special Service. TIMARU, March 17. A mass demonstration of South Canterbury farmers "to illustrate the serious plight of the financial position of the farming industry with a view to enlisting the sympathy of the Government and other sections of the community in the efforts of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union to gain the same treatment for primary industries as for other industries” will be held in Timaru during April. A decision to this effect was made at a meeting of the South Canterbury provincial executive of the Farmers’ Union in Timaru todav, when a committee comprising 'the presidents of°various branches was empowered to approach the agricultural and pastoral associations and Crown tenants’ association of the province and ascertain their attitude to the proposal and make necessary arrangements for a mass demonstration of all sections of the farming industry. The Minister of Agriculture- will be invited to attend and speakers will probably include the Dominion president of'the Farmers’ Union, Mr. Mulholland.
