SEARCH FOR BRAVE MAN
The recently-formed Married Woman’s Association has searched Britain. so far in vain, for a man brave enough to enter a room full of married women and deny that a wife should be entitled to wages.
The association, which plans to get a Bill through Parliament giving wives the legal status of wage-earners, is to hold a full-dress debate in the West End of London.
That is, if a man can be found to argue against their resolution: — "That a married woman should be legally entitled to a part of the joint family income as a housekeeper.”
Mrs. Mavis G. Tate. Unionist M.P. for Frorne, and Dr. Edith Summerskill, Socialist M.P. for West Fulham, will put the married women's case.
“Miss Juanita Frances,” who is the wife of a wealthy business man, but refuses to use her married name in connexion with the work of the association of which she is chairman, said: “We simply cannot find a man who will come forward to oppose our resolution.
“I’ve written to politicians, peers, well-known lawyers and debaters. Each has refused. Most of them said there was no case to put against us.”
