HUTT ESPERANTISTS

Marked progress was reported by the secretary, Miss M. Stirling, at the annual meeting of the Hutt Valley Esperanto Club. There was an increase in membership and many members of the club were speaking the language fluently. During the year the club and members had been in touch with 62 countries. The instructors, Misses M. and K. Stirling, Mr. E. Childs, and Mr. J. Dempsey, were thanked for their work. The financial report was satisfactory. The election of officers resulted:—President, Miss M. Stirling; vice-president, Mr. O. H. Ilton; secretary, Mr. J. Hamilton; treasurer, Mr. I. Johnstone; librarians, Mr. R. Dobson and Mr. W. Vincent; auditor, Mr. W. E. Currie; club editor, Mr. W. E. Currie; social committee, Mrs. McLean, Miss M. Stirling, Mr. R. Dobson, Mr. H. Sutton.

The Moera-Waiwetu League of Mothers held the first meeting of the year in St. Paul’s Schoolroom, where future meetings will be held. Hitherto the league has been known as the Moera League of Mothers and meetings were held in the Moera Community Hall. Mrs. L. Hayton presided. Mrs. P. Dunkley was elected secretary in place of Mrs. I. M. Synott, who resigned. Mrs. P. Seagar and Mrs. Stamp gave vocal items, accompanied by Mrs. D. Weddekind. Mrs. G. B. Gaby, of the St. John Ambulance Division, lectured on children's ailments and gave a demonstration of bedmaking.
