British Army Strength From “The Dominion/* March 20, 1914. An official return shows that there are 548,000 officers and men in the Regular Army and territorials in Britain. During the debate in the British House of Commons on the Naval Estimates, Mr. Phillip Snowden (Socialist) attacked the international ring of armament firms, which was run largely by British capital, while members of both political parties were among the shareholders. He accused the “ring” of organising war scares at Home and abroad.
New Zealand Government officials have acquired 1000 acres of the Tiratu Block on the outskirts of Dannevirke, at £lO an acre. The block comprises 7000 acres. It is likely that a considerable portion of the balance will be purchased by the Crown for settlement purposes. The cheques paid ranged from £5O to £3OOO. The land is admirably suited for dairying. '
