Tropical Disturbance In Fiji Islands

Following is the weather report and the forecast for winds and seas issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. today : — General situation: Pressure remains high over the New Zealand, area, but a shallow depression Is advancing across the South Tasman Sea. A tropical disturbance is centred in the Fiji Island group. Forecast: —

Winds: South-easterlies in parts of the northern half of the North Island; elsewhere nortEeasterlies or northerlies - prevailing, but a change to southerlies probable in the south during today. Force light to moderate, but freshening somewhat. Seas (New Zealand waters) : Rather rough to rough north of East Cape: elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to fresh north-east to northerly winds, turning later to southerlies in the south. Seas slight to moderate.

YESTERDAY’S WEATHER

Wellington: Dull and very misty in the morning,' but fine and sunny in the afternoon. A very light northerly breeze blew and the temperature was mild. Minimum temperature Wednesday night, 55.2 degrees; maximum temperature yesterday, 67.5 degrees;, tem•perature at 3.30 p.m. yesterday, 66.7 degrees; barometer at 3.30 p.m. yesterday, 30.3071 n.

Palmerston North: Overcast in the early morning, but the sun came through after 10 o’clock, the remainder of the day being sunny and warm, with a light south-easterly breeze. Masterton: A perfect autumn day with little wind, after a dense early morning fog.

Wanganui: Blue sky and light southwesterly breeze. Seas smooth. The barometer reading at 4.30 p.m. was 30.40 in.

New Plymouth: Brilliant sunshine and very warm, with practically calm conditions; barometer at 5 p.m., 30.15 In. Waipukurau: A perfect day with brilliant sunshine, a maximum temperature of SO degrees and a barometer reading of 30.40 in. Auckland: Fine and sunny during the day, conditions becoming dull in the late afternoon. The wind was light to moderate from the north, and the maximum temperature 75 degrees. Barometric pressure fell slightly during the afternoon, and the reading at 5 p.m. was 30.34 in. Christchurch: Fine but overcast with a very light north-east breeze. The maximum temperature was 61.6 degrees, and the barometer fell slightly to 30.291 n. at 5 p.m. Dunedin: Fine with no wind and the sun shone intermittently. The temperature reached a maximum of 66 degrees. The barometer fell slightly to 30.35 in.
