NEW CENTRAL LIBRARY
Dignified Building Reaches Finishing Stage
The exterior walls of the new Wellington Central Public Library in Mercer Street have been completed and it is now revealed as a graceful and dignified edifice which is likely to prove an architectural ornament to the city. The finishing work is proceeding sat isfactorily. Steel window frames have been provided and these are now being primed in before glazing. A gang of men is employed laying down the asphalt flooring on the Hat roof of the structure. The composition being used is a blending of Trinidad with Italian rock asphalt, which is said to give satisfactory results. The nanels of Dailey Dale stone, which grace the entrance, have been completed, though its use has been rather sparing. The lone of this natural stone will lie given to the whole of the building, and the cement paint to be used on the walls is already on the job.
One of the peculiar features of the new’ library is. the arrangement of the heating radiators. As a rule hollowiron radiators are recessed within the walls, or stand out from them; but. in this case, the radiators have lieen laid out horizontally between the ceiling of the main floor and the floor of the story above.
