Petone Win Champion Of Champion Singles ATTRACTIVE PLAY Petoue's representative, W. G. Millie, won I he junior championship singles of the Wellington Bowling Centre, which was played on the Hataitai green yesterday. The event provided some surprisingly interesting games and skilful play, considering that the men had not played as members of clubs before the 1937-38 season. Spectators, including some eminent exponents of the game in AVelliugton. praised the play that had held their interest throughout the clay. The runner-up was T. Tucker, Seatoun. over whom .Milne nad a fairly comfortable victory on points, although the loser’s woods were never far from the jack. A slight lapse from form between the 9th and 14th ends was Tucker’s, undoing. They were four-nil on the sixth, and Tucker was live up. 9-1, three ends later, but his total stayed at nine for seven ends while Milne added 12, and by the 15tJi .Milne was seven up. Tucker go two from the 15th. but the next two ends increased -Milne’s score by three, and he was seven up with three ends to play ;
TiXl/r then eotuiueiieed tu uutdran his opponent: and had one shot in the 18th head. The heads were very close. Milne got two on the 19th. and Tneker’s outlook was hopeless. Tucker won the 20th, but: it was only a two. and uhe play then ceased with the score standing 21-14.
The champion of eiuniipioiiis had a very close win over the Khandallali representative, D. Douglas, in the second round, an extra head having to be played. An extra head was necessary also in the game in which F. Smith. Wellington, beat G. Dick, Kelburu. in the third round. Tucker beat Smith next round by drawing the shot beautifully with his last bowl when the totals were even and his opponent lay to. At the conclusion of play Mr. M. .1. Ca.sey. president of the centre, congratulated' the players, and mentioned the centre's gratitude to the donor of the cup for the event. Mr. L. Smith, who was a spectator.
