ENGLISH MARES
Imported For New Zealand SALE AT TRENTHAM ON SATURDAY The importation of six young brood mares, which were landed in Wellington from England recently, is ot considerable interest to breeding as well as racing men. They are all in foul to -> ew r^ ealal ’ d time to the French-bred stallion Lang Bian. Florilege is a four-year-old mare by the Derby winner Felstead (a great grandson of Carbine), from a mare by Captain Cuttie from a daughter of Tracery, a good staying pedigree. Revinella is another four-rear-old by Reveillion, a successful Solario horse. This mare is from the famous Alice Hawthorn family and lias a double-cross of Bayardo in her pedigiee. A mare that combines the best English and French blood is Flying Star 11, a four-year-old by the Good wood Cup winner, Salmon Leap, from Etoile d’Orieut, bv Sartlanaple. Miss Pippin is a four-year-old by Apple Sammy, from Dalia, by Buchan from Mossdale, sister to the dual Ascot Gold Cup winner, The ’White Knight. The Sunshine family is represented by the five-year-old Medusa, by Diomedes from Firefiend, by the Gallinule horse Torioisk. This family has been represented by the successful .sires, Martian and Liniond in New Zealand, by Positano in Australia, and by Phalaris all over the world. Stourbridge Fair, bred in 1932, is by the Lemberg horse Ellangowan, from Silver Muse, by Chaucer. This mare is nearly related to Hurry On, unbeaten as a racehorse and the sire of three Derby winners.
