A Health Measure

Sir, —Fifteen years ago 1 wrote to your valuable paper regarding the windowless fish shops, and since that time some of the shops have had an arrangement made, which prevents a mass attack by flies on the fish, and certainly is a vast improvement. Bur, sir, there are still a few open shops, aud I noticed one today where there were hundreds of flies and also a goodly number of blowflies wending their way in and out of the fish and rabbits. At different times of the day fresh water is hosed on to the dead carcases. Is this to keep the flies away, or is it to help retain the flavour? One is at a complete lo.ss to know just why a bylaw lias not been passed to prevent this state of affairs. Surely the health authorities must observe these flies, aud surely they can take some action. —I am, etc., PINE MESH. Wellington, March 13.
