OPIUM SHOPS REOPEN UNDER JAPANESE
LONDON, March 14. Many opium shops, of which Weihaiwei has been free for 40 years, have beeu opened since the occupation of the city by the Japanese, The correspondent of "The Times” in Weihaiwei reports that guerrilla soldiers shot’dead -the chief of the puppet Government’s detective force.
EXPORT REGULATIONS BY JAPANESE. (Received March 15, 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 15. The Peking correspondent of ‘‘The Times” says that it is setni-ofticially stated that the export regulationshave not yet been fully enforced. A month’s grace has beeu granted in respect of export contracts made before March 10. Despite the ban, the old currency is circulating at par in Peking and at 3 per cent, premium in Tientsin.
