Shallow Depression Over Western Tasman
Following is the weather report and forecast for winds and seas, issued by the Meteorological Office for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. today:— General situation: A shallow depression is located over the western Tasman Bea, and conditions are disturbed in the tropics. Over New Zealand and south-eastern Australia, however, pressure is high. Forecast. —Winds: Light to fresh north-east' to north-west at first over most of the country, but southerlies in the far south and gradually extending northward over most of the country. Seas (New Zealand waters): Slight to moderate generally, but rather rough at times in Cook Strait and on the east coast of North Auckland. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to fresh north-easterly winds in tlie northern, portion, and south-east to north-east in the southern. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER Welltngiou: Overcast in the morning, but cleared partially in the afternoon. A light to moderate northerly breeze blew an'd temperatures were mild. Maximum temperature, 67deg.; minimum temperature Monday night, 51.9 deg. At 3.30 p.m. the temperature was 67de o . and the barometer reading 30.281 in. Palmerston North: Overcast in the morning, but bright sunshine in the afternoon. Very warm, light south-east bl Masterton: Cloudy hut fine with patches of warm sunshine and a light, cool west wind. .. Wanganui: Sunny all day, with -t light south-westerly breeze. Sea smooth. The barometer reading at 4.30 p in. was 30.40 inches. New Plymouth: Warm and sunny with a light northerly breeze. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 30 20m. Wainukurau: Glorious sunshine throughout the day, with a maximum temperature of OSdeg. and a barometer reading of 30.3 Sin. Napier and Hastings: Fine, clear and warm, witli a light easterly breeze. Auckland: Fine and sunny with a light to moderate easterly wind, the maximum temperature being 72deg. Barometric pressure was high and fairly steady with a reading at 5 p.m. of 30.32111. Christchurch: Warm ami sunny throughout with only light easterly winds. The maximum temperature was 69.2 deg. and the barometer at 5 p.m. read 30.20 in. and was falling slowly. . Dunedin: Hazy in the morning but (he sun shone brightly later and Hie temperature rose to 72deg. There was practically no wind, and the barometer, after falling about midday, was rising later at 30.30 in. Last night the sky became heavily overcast an'd the air was still very warm.
