LAST LEVEL CROSSING TO GO

New Plymouth-Hawera Highway By Telegraph—Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, March 14. The last level crossing on the New Plymouth-Hawera section of the Auck-land-Wellington State highway will disappear soon with the elimination of the crossing at Rugby Road, near Inglewood. Preparations are being made by the Public Works Department for the construction of a subway. To enable the work to be done more easily, a deviation will be made for the railway and the present crossing will continue to be used till the subway is completed. The diversion of the line will entail the construction of a loop extending for several chains from the south side of the existing crossing to a point south of the proposed subway. A start has not yet been made with this.
