DELAYED START

Fire In Dynamo On Limited Express CARRIAGE REPLACED Damage to the electric lighting and water-pumping dynamo under a firstclass carriage was responsible for 38 minutes’ delay in the departure of the Limited express from Wellington to Auckland last night. A few minute.s before the train was scheduled to leave a short circuit developed in the dynamo. Flames burst from the equipment, but were quickly suppressed with tin extinguisher. The passengers left the carriage, later removing their luggage. The lighting system was put out of working order. Arrangements were made to provide a substitute for the damaged vehicle and the first few carriages had to be uncoupled to allow the damaged ear to be removed half a mile down in the yards. The train was reassembled with the addition of another carriage, and finally departed at 7.53 p.m.
