Farmer Acquitted On Ground Of Insanity

JURY RETURNS VERDICT WITHOUT RETIRING By Tolegraph association. NELSON, March 14. Without retiring, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty ou the grounds of insanity in the ease in the Supreme Court today in which Arthur Frederick Kerr, aged 54, farmer, of Uruwhenua. near Takaka, was charged with the murder of his wife, Laura May Kerr on December 15. Mr. Justice Reed remarked on the distressing nature of the case. Responsible opinions of doctors were till one way. The circumstances attending the act itself undoubtedly warranted the finding that accused was insane.

Accused was ordered to be detained in the mental institution in Stoke till the pleasure of the Minister of Justice was known.

Leave to apply to the AttorneyGeneral for nolle prosequi in reference to tlie second charge of murder of a son was granted.
