HOTELS CLOSED TODAY FOR SEVEN HOURS

Hotels in the Hutt electorate will be closed for the .supply of liquor from noon till 7 p.m., because of the election for the Hutt Licensing Committee. The law, in distinction to the ordinary six o’clock and Sunday closing, is that it is not only the sale of liquor that is illegal but its supply. The same applies to the Wellington Suburbs electorate, which takes in part of Lhe Hutt Valley. Wood has been appointed pumping station engineer to rhe Lower Hutt Borough Council. Building permits in Lower Hutt for February totalled 27 of a value of £13,645; in February, 1938, the figures were 16 and £35,095. Twenty-five scooters and cubmistresses from the Manawatu were the guests of the Hutt Valley and Bays District officials at the weekend. A church parade was held at St. James’s Church, Lower Hutt, on Sunday morning and the jamboree site, 'Heretaunga, was visited iu the afternoon.
