ANNUAL SPORTS DAY

Brilliant Weather For Girls' College

Wellington Girls’ College lust nothing by the postponement of their annual sports, which were prevented from being held 011 Friday by the rainy weather. Yesterday was a perfect day, ami the grounds at. Kelburn Park bad benefited considerably from the rain, not only presenting a better surface for the athletics, but a brighter green to show the gay scene to better advantage. The girls were in the uniform navy shorts and white blouses, with a touch of colour in their house ribbons, worn as bands from shoulder to waist.

All the events were marked by unusually large entries, and were run with great enthusiasm on the part of the entrants, being watched with equal interest and excitement by the spectators. Many parents, old girls and friends attended. Miss V. M. Grieg, former principle of Wellington Girls College and Miss A. M. Batham, former principal of Wellington East Girls’ College, were in the official party. Miss E. M. North, principal of AVellington Girls’ College wore a smart blue figured ensemble with a powder blue picture hat. Others with her in the official party included Airs. Knox Gilmer, Mr. T. Hills, president of the Parents’ Association, and Mrs. Hills. Mr. Lopdell, Mrs. Ollier, Mrs. lan McKenzie, and Mrs. AV. O. Uquhart, president of the Old Girls’ Association.

Soft drinks, sweets and cakes were in great demand throughout the afternoon, with profitable results for the Old Girls’ Association, who ran the stalls for the benefit of the association funds. Afternoon tea was provided by the school and dispensed by the girls. Results of the events appear on another page.
