VICTORIA LEAGUE TEA
Lady Buckleton Farewelled
By Members ••'President for a number of years and now our beloved patron,” said Mrs. L. O. 11. Tripp of Lady Buckleton, in whose honour a delightful morning party was given yesterday by members of the Victoria League of Wellington. Lady Buckleton, who will leave next week for England, was accompanied by Miss Jean Buckleton, who will accompany her mother and whose marriage will take place there on her arrival.
Mrs. Tripp, who is acting president of the league during Mrs. J. A. Doctor’s absence abroad, spoke of the kindness and generosity for which Lady Buckleton was well known. The Victoria League had received its lull share of her warm-heartedness and her kindly actions were known to have many other “outlets” as well. Mrs. Tripp wished the guest of honour an enjoyable trip and Miss Buckleton all happiness from the members. Lady Buckleton and her daughter pinned lovely shoulder posies to their frocks which were presented. by Mrs. Tripp. A bouquet from Mrs. C. M. Hume was also presented to Lady Buckleton. Life without the Victoria League was a hard thing for her to remember Lady Buckleton said in thanking members for their “welcome and farewell,” for her mother too had been a very early member of the league in Auckland, just as she had been. She recalled the admirable work done by the Victoria League in Auckland during the war, when its efforts stimulated other clubs to follow the lead given. Morning tea was served and later guests moved round and extended their personal greetings. Witch bowls ot llambuoyant coloured zinnias decorated the English Speaking Union reception room for the occasion. Mrs. A. NormanJones supplied the Howers from her Lower Hutt garden. While tea was being served Mrs. Tripp spoke of the work being done by the young contingent who had arranged a very interesting programme for Thursday night. March 16. in the Masonic Hall, when they would present a delightful “tour through Europe” with song and dance. ■Several apologies for absence were received during the morning. Lady Buckleton wore a navy georgette frock and full-length coat faintly patterned and beret hat of navy, and Miss Buckleton was in a navy and white silk frock, navy redingote and navy veiled hat. Mrs. Tripp was wearing a horizontally striped dress in shades of black, lemon, green and rust and upturned black hat, and Mrs. Barrington Smythe, who assisted her in receiving, was in a black cloque frock with gold mesh top and large black hat.
