Annual Fete Of St. Thomas’s Home The annual garden fete of St. Thomas s Boys’ Home was held in its picturesque grounds iu Nai Nai on Saturday afternoon. The weather was pleasantly bright and warm and the grounds, with their smooth lawns aud English and native trees and shrubs, were most attractive. A particularly charming feature was the stream, bordered with weeping willows, pungas and many-hued hydrangeas. Pony rides and boating were popular. The Rev. Father Tymons, school chaplain, welcomed the M.P. for Wellington Suburbs, Mr. Combs, and Mrs. W. Nash, and thanked those whose hard work had contributed to the'success of the fete. He said that, the proceeds would be put to excellent use.in providing amenities and sports requisites for the boys. It was the sisters’ object to give the boys as pleasant a time as possible during their youth in a happy environment and to build characters that would fit. the boys for life. Air. Combs, wh,o opened the fete in the absence of the -M.P. for Hutt, Air. Nash, who was indisposed, eulogized the work of the sisters. The Mother Superior of Hill Street Convent, Wellington, and the Rev. Father Daly were among those present. The municipal band provided bright music. ’The stall-holders -were; Mesdames AL Gleeson, W. Alainwaring,. C. Connolly, C. Hickmott, Hanlon, Lewin, P. Guthrie, J. P. O’Neill, J. Roberts, Al. Kelly, L. Doherty, Al. Henry, Reader, AL Dowell, C. El Morine, V. Hay, A. McDowell and Al. Morrice, Misses I. Curtis, J. Hughes, K. Sullivan., M. Warren, J. Stewart, AL Sauuazarro, C. O'Shea, Goulter, Al. Jones, Al. Ryan, V. Gapes, McMurrich, N. Scanlon, A. Gibbs, AL Doherty, Robertson, and K. Edwards. The side-shows were in charge of Messrs. R. J. McKinley, M. Tracy and F. Lang. Studio Dance., There was a large attendance at a dance given by Aliss Eva Draper in. her studio on Saturday .night. Pots of as-paragus-fern were effectively used in decoration. Two of Aliss Draper s pupils, Winsome and Alervin Smith, thy former wearing a frock of white net over satin, gave a demonstration of two party dances, the .Palais Glide and the Trek. Miss Draper wore a frock of tea-rose pink satin-backed silk crepon with an undercorsage of silver lame, and a pink flower in her hair. Air. G. Persson was master-of-ceremonies.
