STOCKS AND SHARES

No Improvement In Turnover ' PRICES REMAIN STEADY The volume of business on the New Zealand stock exchanges last week continued at the low level which has been maintained in recent week*?. '1 be Australian exchanges firmed considerably during the week, but the improvement shown there and the more cheering news from London failed to evoke much response in the Dominion markets. With the continuation of the embargo on buying overseas, Australian and other first-class stocky in the Dominion are being firmly held and it is becoming increasingly difficult to meet the demand which exists. In the case of Australian shares, most first-clacks issues are wed above current prices* in Australia for the same issues. New Zealand Government loans continue to sell at a discount, but the market last week showed a slightly firmer trend.
