JUNIOR AND WOMEN ATHLETES

Selection Try-Out At Hataitai Women and junior athletes were allotted Saturday afternoon at Hataitai Park for a selection try-out in view of the national women’s and junior championships in Auckland on March 25. In spite of the intermittent rain a number of athletes went through their paces, but the events could not be taken seriously for selection purposes, and the selectors, Father T. Cleary and Mr. A. C. Kitto, may ask some of the likely athletes to have another try-out tomorrow evening. The women’s provincial high jump championship, which was omitted from the programme at the Basin Reserve on February 25, will be held at Hataitai tomorrow at 6 p.m. Some of the field events on Saturday were held indoors. The best performance was a shot put by J. D. A’Court of 36ft. 4iin„ the junior standard for the 121 b. shot being 36ft. Afterward A’Court had some practice puts in the rain, getting the shot out to 35ft. 3iin. Results were as follows: —
