Power of Army Greatly Increased REVEALING FIGURES Official’s Warning to Soviet’s Enemies By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received January 31, 10.55 p.m.) London', January 31. The “Manchester Guardian’s” Moscow correspondent says that 2000 delegates at the Soviet Congress at rhe Kremlin thundered applause for 15 minutes when M. Tuchachevsky, ViceCommissar of Defence, announced that the Red Army had .almost doubled in fighting and defence power in the last four years. They afterward sang the Internationale.
M. Tuchachevsky said that the Red Army had increased from under 000,090 men to 940,000. the air. fleet had been more than tripled, the number of tanks increased 700 per cent., submarines 435 per cent., light torpedo craft 370 per cent., machine guns 700 per cent., and heavy artillery 210 per cent Coastal fortifications, especially in the Far East, had also been greatly strengthen,ed.
“War against us is being intensively prepared, but let; our enemies now try our borders and the strength of our army,” be said.
