Restoration of 1/- a Week Suggested

That the gratuity of 4/- a month which the 'Wellington Hospital Board used to allow each inmate of the Ohiro Home for the aged and needy bo restored forthwith wqs the plea of Mr. C. A. L. Treadwell to members at last night’s meeting of tho board. “A previous board had to cut out the gratuity on account of financial stringency, but I think the time has com® when this board should restore the Va week to these old people.” said Mr. Treadwell. “It means a good deal to them.”

Mrs, S, Snow, who seconded, said the allowance enabled the old people to feel more independent.

Dr. Campbell Begg said the gratuity psefl to cost the board £5OO a year, Mr. Treadwell: It is nothing like that. Mr. G. Petherick (chairman of the relief coiupiittee) : At one time it was £4O a month. We had to cut it out. and it was a most unpleasant thing to have to do. Dr, Begg (referring to the dental department) :. It is more important to give relief workers teeth than to restore the gratuity. Tlie proposal was pent on to the i’eIjof committee as a recommendation.
