NEW ROAD WORK

Section in Johnsonville CABINET APPROVAL Definite information has been received by the 'Wellington district office of the Public Works Department that Cabinet has approved of the construction of the proposed road through Johnsonville as an extension of the new Khandallah-Johnsonville road now nearing completion. The latter road will probably not be opened to the public until the additional section has been completed, which is expected to be about six months hence. The road will be a continuation in practically a straight line of the new main road as it enters Johnsonville from the south, and, after skirting the western side of the railway yard, will enable traffic to join the existing main highway at the crest of the hill by the Church of England. Some preliminary work in the shifting of two cottages and the acquisition of land will be necessary. The road construction will consist mostly of filling, the spoil for which will be available from the cuttings on the new road leading into Johnsonville. Had the new section not been undertaken several sharp corners would have been encountered by traffic using this new outlet from Wellington.
