An unusual accident?happened at Ellerslie during the holding of the Takapuna Jockey Club's meeting. When going down the straight to do his preliminary for the Suburban Handicap, the horse Tray Bit hung in close to the rails. On reaching the arm of the fence which swings out from the rails, Tray Bit tried to jump it, but failed, and threw his rider, A. Tinker. The jockey received a broken collarbone, and Tray Bit was withdrawn from the race. Tinker had been engaged to ride Kiltowyn in the following event, but another rider had to be secured, and the amount was given to L. Dulieu, who had the pleasure of winning on the gelding. The accident was unfortunate for Tinker, but it's an ill wind that blows ndbody any good. For his winning ride on Kiltowyn, L. Dulieu received £B, less tax.
